Anderson Main Office (Anderson, CA)
Biologist The Wildlife and Botany Program of our Forestry Division has an opening for a qualified Biologist to help manage Sierra Pacific Industries forestlands in northern California. The successful applicant will be required to locate to the Redding area. The position will deal primarily with wildlife issues, but familiarity with botany issues is desirable. The position is based out of our Anderson office, and the primary geographic focus will be Humboldt, Trinity, Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama, Lassen, Modoc, and Plumas Counties. Occasionally, there will be a need to travel to remote forest sites throughout northern California.
    PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Participate in policy-level discussions and decisions regarding wildlife issues in actively-managed California forests both within the company and with outside entities.
  • Perform field surveys for both animals and plants.
  • Query and analyze data and write reports dealing with biological issues in environmental documents. Publish results of scientific studies.
  • Attend harvest review meetings with regulators.
  • Train other members of the forestry division on biological issues.
  • Speak to groups and organizations about wildlife and botany programs.
  • Miscellaneous field work performing potentially arduous physical activities in a safe manner such as hiking in rough terrain, conducting surveys at all hours (day or night) and working in remote locations in all types of weather.
    QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife biology, forestry, botany, or related natural resource field.
  • Five or more years of experience associated with the primary duties listed above.
  • Familiarity with Northern spotted owls, marbled murrelets, and other listed species in the focus counties.
  • Ability to identify fish and wildlife species in the focus geographic area.
  • An understanding of federal and state rules and laws dealing with timber and wildlife.
  • Map and photo interpretation ability.
  • Computer skills Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Personable with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with state and federal regulators.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Ability to qualify now or in the near future as a Spotted Owl Expert as defined in 14 California Code of Regulations ยง895.1 is desirable.
  • Quad-runner and snowmobile experience is desirable.

Lincoln Division (Lincoln, CA)
Laborers/Cleanup Must be safety minded and have good communication skills. This is a physically demanding position. Job duties include sweeping and shoveling for long periods of time, working in outdoor climate, picking up broken boards and other materials weighing 5 to 75 pounds. Use of wheelbarrows, shovels and wearing of gloves and hard hats required. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Must be 18. Must be able to work any shift, holidays and weekends as needed. Filer - Bandsaw Require a minimum of 3 years experience as a saw filer. Be able to use wrenches, hammer and hand tools to grind, sharpen swedge and stellite saws. Recognize and repair defects in saws. Must be able to change, adjust and align saws, maintain pour and cut saw guides and operate gas welder and cutting torch.
